'Maman aye nzala esili!"

Our STORY

We are Dave & Jenny Marrs.

In 2012, we fell in love with a little girl on the other side of the globe who needed a family.

As we looked into her big, brown eyes, we knew: our world was forever changed.

We began this feeding program as a response to an urgent need for food at the orphanage where our adopted daughter lived for the first year and a half of her young life. The orphanage was located in the capital city of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

After learning that the children were in desperate need of food, we knew we had to help. We had to do somethingIn November of 2013, a group of fellow adoptive parents linked arms and raised funds for a food delivery to this extremely under-resourced orphanage.

When the food was delivered, a dear and trusted friend entered the gates to children calling out {in the local dialect of Lingala}, "Maman aye nzala esili," which, translated in English means, "mom comes, finish hunger!"

What started as a simple response to a need, has grown and developed into a partnership with an incredible Congolese-run organization: Mwangaza International.

Our current efforts are focused on providing food for close to two-hundred children in the city of Kinshasa. We are feeding children living in three orphanages in the capital city. Two orphanages are home to orphaned and abandoned children and one is home to twenty-six young girls, ages 6-14, who have been rescued from sex trafficking. These orphanage are a place of physical, emotional and spiritual healing. Feed Their Tummies is coming alongside the good work Mwangaza is already doing in order to provide these children with three nutritious meals each and every day.

An estimated four million orphaned children live in the Congo. The number is staggering. Yet, we can make a difference. We can provide tangible love through the gift of food. Our hope is to hear the beautiful sound of the words, "MAMAN AYE NZALA ESILI,"  many, many more times.

FOOD IS AN ESSENTIAL ELEMENT OF AN ABUNDANT LIFE. WE ARE THANKFUL THAT FEED THEIR TUMMIES IS PROVIDING MEALS TO OUR CHILDREN SO THAT WE CAN USE OUR RESOURCES TO IMPROVE OTHER ASPECTS OF THEIR LIVES.
